The 10th Abbfest is now over. We had a great time.
The weather was perfect and people came in their thousands to enjoy some fantastic ales and ciders from Devon. We had visitors from all over the country, and even one who came all the way from Finland!
Admittedly there wasn't a lot of cider left by the Sunday, some 3000 pints having been consumed on the Friday and Saturday, but there was still a good choice of ales for Sunday's visitors. In all, we enjoyed about 14,000 pints of beer over the weekend!
Although the Beer Festival started on the Friday night, Abbfest 2013 was officially opened by Edwina Currie on Saturday. Edwina got the cookery demonstrations off to an excellent start, assisting Devon's own Celebrity Chef, Michael Caines in our Abbfest kitchen.
MasterChef Professionals 2012 joint winner, Anton Piotrowski then showed us how to make his distinctive carrot cakes. And there were more cookery demonstrations throughout the rest of the day. An amazing range of food and craft stalls provided visitors on Saturday with a chance to sample and buy some delicious locally produced foods and to stock up on unusual Christmas gifts.
The musical entertainment provided by our local musicians throughout the festival was well received and the Flea Market arranged by Hyson Fairs and the antiques valuations by experts from Bearnes, Hampton & Littlewood added a new dimension to Abbfest.
Children seemed to have limitless energy on the bouncy castle and there were some amazing painted faces to be seen.
